On August 9, 2024, PMG Mining Company in South Africa held its first South African Women’s Day celebration at Kathu Country Club. The event not only promoted the outstanding contributions of women in mining within the company but also demonstrated the company’s firm belief in promoting equal employment between men and women. Through this event, PMG advocated that women have equal opportunities in social and economic activities, and encouraged them to participate more actively in economic development, and jointly build a more equitable society.
The celebration was filled with a joyful atmosphere, enthusiastic music and dance, wonderful performances by the Chinese staff band, and unique personal dress shows, making every participant feel the charm of the celebration. The event kicked off with the singing of the national anthems of the Republic of South Africa and the People’s Republic of China. Guests and employees sang the national anthems in unison, symbolizing the deep friendship between China and South Africa and PMG’s respect and integration of diverse cultures.
During the event, Occupational Health Engineer Dr. Vivian and rock engineer, Dr. Adwoa delivered speeches and highly praised PMG’s efforts and achievements in promoting women's employment and employment equality. They encouraged women to constantly surpass themselves and be proactive. They further expressed their gratitude to the CEO Ms. Huang Lin’s invitation, believing that this was an unforgettable Women’s Day celebration.
In her speech, the CEO Ms. Huang Lin said that every woman in attendance was a protagonist, showing their beauty and confidence. She affectionately read the holiday blessing text message sent by her daughter Kayli:

In addition, PMG Mine General Manager, Mr. Willie and employee representatives Ms. Davene and Ms. Mercia delivered speeches. They shared their feelings and expectations about Women’s Day.
The final personal dress charm show brought the event to its climax. All female employees of the company actively participated and showed their personal style. After the unanimous scoring of the judges, Ms. Lu Siying from the company’s Finance department was crowned 2024 PMG Best Dressed, for her oriental-charming Hanfu dress. Ms. Moerida from the Administration department and FeiFei Zhou, from the company’s family, won the second and third places respectively.
CEO Ms. Huang Lin presented the winners with award certificates and ribbons. The event ended successfully with a group photo of all staff and invited guests, capturing this memorable moment. More than sixty guests and employees participated in the celebration, including the Occupational Health Engineer, Rock engineer, Service providers, all female employees and some employees’ families.
South African Women's Day is different from International Women's Day. It originated from the historical event of hundreds of black women protesting against the apartheid "pass law" in Pretoria on August 9, 1956. In order to commemorate the contribution of South African women to the struggle for equality, the new South African government designated this day as Women's Day and a national public holiday. Every August 9, various celebrations are held across South Africa to call for gender equality, end violence and discrimination, and protect women's rights.
