Through its effort to foster social cohesion and enhance the diverse cultures of South Africa's heritage, PMG Mining Company celebrated the month by remembering the cultural heritage of many cultures.
The day is an essential source of identity through cultural tradition, rituals, and indigenous knowledge, amongst others. It plays an integral part for South Africans in promoting history, peace, and reclaiming their living heritage.

On Friday, September 22, 2023, the PMG workforce took time to reflect on and embrace their different cultures. The day started with Mr. John-Ross Van Nel, mine manager, welcoming all employees and reminiscing on the rich cultures of South Africa.

Mr. Stone Wei, Deputy General Manager, delivered the keynote address. He reminded the PMG workforce that our heritage, whether through historical landmarks, monuments, or natural parks, is a testimony to the diversity of cultures and civilizations that existed throughout our history.

Eleven volunteers from the workforce showed off their cooking skills. The group had to prepare authentic traditional dishes and present their food to five judges. The esteemed judges rated the competitors' cuisines through a taste test. Three prizes were awarded to the top three contestants. Denetia Morubisi was placed third for her mouth-watering tripe dish; Lebo Moloa came in second for her flavorsome wine-braised oxtail; and Chandre Gabanamoets was the winner for her delectable authentic Cape Malay curry.

On the sidelines of the Heritage Day event, Ms. Rika Cloete from Women in Mining addressed the PMG Workforce Women, encouraging them to be themselves and to be brave. She said women should be a fearless force to be reckoned with and should encourage one another.

To represent the flags of South Africa and China, employees formed human flags for the two countries. The momentous occasion was captured on camera, marking it as a historic moment for the PMG family.
Throughout the day, employees took part in various activities, such as volleyball, soccer, water sliding, and dominoes. A general knowledge quiz was done to test two volunteers on the history of PMG Mining, South Africa's history, and the upcoming Mid-Autumn festival in China. Lerato Nyilika was crowned the general quiz queen. The day ended with some employees showing off their braai skills and treating staff to a delicious lunch.
